Evaluation of the emission characteristics of fine and PCDD/PCDFs- from electric arc furnaces: A sectorial approach.

Emission characterization from electric arc furnaces (discontinuous process), presents specific features -short time-scale variations- and problems, due to the fact that measurement methods are validated for continuous steady-state processes, as is the case for fine PM and PCDDs/DFs. The high variability of reported data, which reflect the emission flow spatial and temporal variability, is determined by a variety of relevant factors, due to both operation and measurement.

The main goal of this work is to assess the influence of raw material and process parameters -like temperature in process line- to investigate the formation of dioxin (Cunlife et al 2009. De novo formation and the memory effect in waste incineration flue gases ) and study to determine characteristics of the congener patterns of emitted PCDD/PCDF data from the stack gas of twelve EAF,s (Chang et al 2006. Evaluation of the emission characteristics of PCDD/PCDFs from electri arc furnaces) associating real-time size distributions and analysis of size-segregated sample. QA/QC procedures were carefully monitored.
