CEM Data Management applications: requirements for an environmental data management software to comply with EU regulations
EU directives today require drastic performance of environmental compliance and reporting applications. With the implementation of actual standards & directives in the field of emission monitoring (LCPD, WID, EN 14181…), plant operators have to provide the supervisory authority with highly verifiable and auditable emission reports.
Therefore, modern CEM Data Management applications have to be designed for this purpose and shall ensure:
1. transparency (auditable methods and data used)
2. data integrity (no data corruption)
3. completeness (proper storage and management of data and other contextual information)
4. security (protection against loss or corruption of data)
5. documentation (proper use of the application by the operator)
Such applications have to include specific features such as:
1. AMS drifts and accuracy control (QAL 3)
2. Automatic comparison with mandatory Emission Limit Values (ELVs)
3. Automatic management of AMS calibration and QAL 3 procedures
4. Calibration function of the CEM and its validity
5. Control charts (Shewhart, EWMA, CUSUM)
6. Management of redundant AMS
With the growth of environmental concerns and regulation enforcement, CEMs are now considered by plant owners as critical operating parts, and are subsequently managed just like any other “productive” tool.
Therefore it becomes crucial for operators to have all necessary tools within their CEM Data Management application for a “smart” management policy.
Integrated Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) will then help to perform proactive maintenance and to automatically generate work orders (vital components of any efficient plant).
